Ganbrood is an artist whose background spans special effects, 3D animation, video game development, and photography. Since 2019 he has embraced synthetic image generation through artificial intelligence as his primary medium, constructing images that have never been captured by a camera.

Working with generative neural networks trained on vast archives of photographic imagery, he produces a form of synthetic photography. These images are not driven by light entering a lens but by visual lore embedded in data.

At first glance many of his images evoke the aesthetics of painting or illustration, yet their visual logic remains deeply photographic. His years as a photographer refined his sensitivity to color, light, and composition, giving the images their sense of visual credibility.

In many of his works he deliberately navigates the fringes between the known and the unknown, the figurative and the abstract, the real and the imagined. By operating in this uncertain territory, the images remain deliberately unresolved, prompting viewers to complete them in their own imagination.

Through this process, Ganbrood explores the relationship between artificial intelligence and human creativity, interrogating algorithms for their potential to produce original expression while examining the nature of creativity itself.

Are these algorithms mimicking human creativity, or revealing that creativity was never uniquely ours to begin with?
